The story of Fortress Risk Consultants began while Mike McDaniel was working at a retail insurance brokerage. A large life insurance company approached him to ask if he would serve as a consultant and review the insurance documentation on a material FHA/HUD transaction to a hospital borrower.

After that first partnership, the lender continued to seek out Mike’s expertise for their risk management needs. Mike saw the opportunity was there to go into the risk management consulting business full-time. With support from this first client, he left his position with the insurance brokerage and set up his own consulting firm.

The business continued to expand into the CMBS, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac capital sources, allowing Fortress Risk to hire its first full-time employee.

Mike’s name began coming up at industry events concerning where to find help with insurance compliance matters. As a result, several lenders called for assistance, allowing Fortress to expand its client roster. 

Since 2012, Fortress Risk has continued to grow mainly by word of mouth and referrals. Fortress is now a regular speaker at industry events, including the MBA Insurance Conclave, as well as a provider of insurance webinars through the Mortgage Bankers Association. Fortress has worked with companies in a range of industries, including multi-family, hospitals, hotels, manufacturing, retail, office, industrial, senior and assisted living, and construction.
